Variety SA has been around for many years to help children in need. They raise money and use the funds to improve the quality life for underprivileged children as well as their families. One important branch is called Variety Vintage, where key players of the SA Wine Industry donate 1 barrel of premium regional red wine – Prowine bottles it and then Variety auctions the finished products to raise much needed funds for Variety SA. All money raised will be used in their 3 core programs: Freedom, Future Children and Caring for children to support the specific needs of each child (which may cover physical, emotional and financial needs).
Prowine, in collaboration with 12 wineries, including Tim Adams Wines, Barossa Valley Estate, Henschke Wines, Charles Melton Wines, Brothered in Arms, Elderton Wines, Kaesler Wines, Majella Wines, Penny’s Hill Wines, St Hallett Wines, Wicks Estate and Peter Lehmann Wines, along with industry suppliers Diverse Barrel Solutions, Guala Closures, O-I Glass, Cochrane’s Transport and Collotype Labels ensured the wines were bottled and packed at no cost so they would be ready for auction at the Variety Vintage Luncheon 2014.
As per usual this year’s luncheon was held in the National Wine Centre and all wines for auction are available for wine tasting at the entrance of the event.
The chairman of the Variety Vintage, Tim Adams gave us an inspiring welcome speech to kick start the event, Jeremy Oliver then took over to host the luncheon. Jeremy is one of Australia’s foremost wine writers and presenters, and has a significant presence throughout in Asia promoting Australian wine.
Following a superb meal, Peter Curtis initiated the auction. This year, there were 24 lots for auction and 31 lots for silent auction. It went smoothly and all wines were sold by the end. One particular lot – Jeremy Oliver’s Lunch Experience in Melbourne for 10 guests created a bidding war which certainly added excitement to the day. The event was then concluded by the end of the silent auction and an amazing cheese platter.
Prowine is proud to be associated with such a great cause and we look forward to the future collaboration! Please visit Variety SA‘s website to see how you can get involved and make a difference.
