Prowine - HACCP NASSA and Carbon Footprinting
January 2010
Here at Prowine it has taken us some time to get our website up and running as we wanted to get the process and details correct. Like everyone who has been involved in setting up a website from scratch it has proved a challenge. We are continuing to monitor and update the site to try to provide a better understanding of what our business is all about. As such we appreciate any constructive feedback you may have.
Something that we wanted to do was to have a newsletter to update everyone on current happenings and anything of importance in the wine bottling and packaging industry. We will update this periodically to keep the information fresh and relevant.
In this, our first newsletter, we wanted to focus on three particular topics, firstly:
HACCP ACCREDITATION
After some six months of hard work for all our staff, we succeeded in gaining our accreditation through SAI Global on 21st August 2009. We passed our audit on the first occasion and were elated that very little in our system had to be changed or altered to accommodate the strict criteria that governs HACCP.
Driven by Sharon Bear and with input from every corner of our business, we now have a quality management system we feel has been designed by our operators with you the customer in mind. We were aware that the system had to have the support of our staff to be a success and that the culture of our business had to recognize this platform for it to succeed. We look forward to the system improving and growing with us to ensure quality remains at the forefront of our ideals.
Not wanting Sharon to rest on her laurels, we have now embarked on gaining our
ORGANIC CERTIFICATION
We are currently in the formal stages of application for Organic Certification, and are eagerly awaiting a response from NASAA to indicate the timing of our first audit. All going well, we are hoping to have the accreditation by 30th June and will update you on its progress in our next newsletter.
CARBON FOOTPRINT
We recognised some time ago that we needed to understand exactly what our Carbon Footprint was and what measures we should take to minimise it. This is an incredibly complex area and one where there is a myriad of information available, some relevant and some not! At this time we are looking to have an audit done to fully assess our impact in regard to our carbon emissions.
With impending legislation in respect to carbon offsets and carbon trading all but law, we are taking this issue very seriously. We want to ensure that we do our very best to be a responsible corporate citizen in this regard and we will keep you updated on our progress in this area as we go forward.
Thanks for visiting our website and for taking the time to read our first newsletter. I hope it gives you a feel for what we at Prowine are all about and where we are heading.
Cheers
Steve Peake
