Hello, and welcome to another edition of the Prowine newsletter.

I would like to take this opportunity to update you on the recent news and happenings in the laboratory. For those of you who haven’t met me yet I have recently taken over the roles of both Sharon Bear and Heidi Wright in the laboratory, who left us earlier this year to pursue other fields with everyone here at Prowine wishing them all the best for the future.

Pre-delivery sample testing
With the 2010 vintage behind us and a lot of wineries preparing to bottle their wine, I would like to remind our customers to take advantage of our pre-delivery analysis service to ensure your wine is all ready for bottling. This is included in the cost of bottling and is useful for the determination of heat and cold stability, turbidity’s, glucose and fructose, malic acid and other analysis prior to wine being delivered to Prowine. Results can be generated within 1 – 3 days depending on the analysis required, with results faxed or emailed directly to you on completion.

Site HACCP Training
All staff at Prowine attended a one day training course in HACCP Food Safety Programs on June 23rd which was run by the Australian Food Training Centre. The training helped to reinforce the importance of a food safety program in the workplace and covered areas including Hazard Analysis, Critical Control Points, avoiding food contamination and implementing and maintaining a food safety program.

Organic Certification
I’m happy to report that Prowine received some very positive feedback relating to our facilities and Organic Wine Bottling Procedure during a recent Organic audit. The audit was conducted by a NASSA representative who was impressed with our high Quality Assurance standards and our commitment to providing customers with a quality, personalized service. We currently have NASAA Certified Organic certification and USNOP. If we can be of any assistance with your organic wine bottling requirements please contact us, as we would be glad to help.

Interwinery Analysis Group
The Interwinery Analysis Group held their annual technical seminar in July at the Barossa Valley Arts and Convention Centre, and as Prowine is a member of the IWAG I attended the seminar to keep abreast of the latest analytical issues as well as meeting and networking with other industry lab personnel. An enjoyable and informative day was had by all attendees.

Wine Tech Conference
In July I attended a Wine and Oxygen Workshop as part of Wine Tech, which was held at the Adelaide Convention Centre. The workshop focused on problems and solutions linked to oxygen management throughout the winemaking and bottling process. It involved a series of practical workshops on measuring oxygen in wine, oxygen control during bottling, the influence of oxygen on wine composition and how to measure the impact of oxygen on the final quality of the wine. The latest case studies on the impact of oxygen and the implications for final wine quality were also discussed.
